Here we are in the middle of prime convertible season - don't you need a red Italian convertible?
It's easy to poke at the things that are wrong with an old car - let's face it, this car is more than 50 years old. But let's start with what's right:
This is an absolute blast to drive, and has been very reliable.
The engine was rebuilt for torque - cam selection and timing and electronic ignition were all selected for excellent throttle response. It's got a Wes Ingram "HP" SPICA injection pump (good for "at least 25% increase in power"). Combined with the stainless Centerline exhaust, this car pulls more like a small V8 than an inline 4. It starts easily, every time, and runs great. (The thermostatic actuator has been replaced with a Sure-Start - IYKYK.)
The brakes have been upgraded (including drilled discs). Improved suspension all around, including adjustable front A-arms. The floor pans have been replaced and epoxy sealed. The chassis stiffening kit all but eliminates the flop and twist usually found in these cars. The three-piece wheels are light and solid. All in all, this is a great handler, perfect for twisty weekend drives.
The lighting has mostly been upgraded to LED: headlights (you won't outdrive these lights or melt the wiring harness), brake lights, side markers, turn signals, instruments. The Euro-spec headlight covers and front bumper lights look way better than the US version.
The top is older, but still fits very tightly (almost too tightly). The interior is a bit tired. A long-ago owner installed a lot of speakers ... and then removed many of them. The radio doesn't work - not even clear that it has power.
Now, there are certainly problems: the paint is shiny but has many flaws. There is rust in the rockers that will need to be attended to eventually. Many of the center console warning lights don't work. There are squeaks and rattles and bumps as in any car this old. Some of the switchgear is ... delicate, but it all works.
Overall - a fun driver's car that will be reliable on any trip and turn heads in any parking lot.
Asking $12,000 - let's talk.
